Sally Shore - Fiber and Bead Artist

I wanted to show you this wonderful jacket that my friend, Sally Shore, knit up. It's from the Harlequin Swagger Jacket pattern in the book "Swing Swagger Drape" by Jane Slicer-Smith. The colors are Sally's own.

Sally is also a fabulous ribbon weaver and she creates all manner of felted bags and sculptures. Her beaded jewelry is lovely and innovative. Check out the galleries on her web site.

Mushroom Pie

First you head out to the woods and gather a chicken mushroom (Polyporaceae Aphyllophorale). Paul came home with about 8 pounds.

This is what they look like, growing in the woods.
After cleaning (also Paul's job), the mushrooms get sautéed and put into a baking dish. I also add rehydrated dried Black Trumpet Mushrooms. A sauce of thickened cream and Madeira is poured over them; a flaky pie crust goes on the top and the whole is baked for 30 minutes. Add a salad and it serves 6 to 8 people. Add some white wine and I'll join you.

The pie can be made with other kinds of mushrooms.  I like Oyster Mushrooms or edible Boletus. The recipe is in the Gourmet Cook Book, Vol. II. The dried Black Trumpets I buy from Mack Hill Farm. If they haven't any listed for sale, contact them because I know they have been out in the woods picking.

Just HAD to Share

This is a portrait photo of Fuzzy Wuzzy, who lives with my niece, Blythe Horman. She took this photo on her new camera. I was told that she had to take over 30 pictures before one came out that wasn't... well, fuzzy. Blythe sells her original art and also digital prints of vintage drawings for collage artists or just to frame and enjoy, on Etsy.

Park City, Utah

We were in Park City for five days. We go almost every year for a family reunion. The altitude is 10,060 feet which makes it very comfortable during the day and sweatshirt temperature at night during most of the summer.

The east side of Main Street.
The Wasatch Brew Pub - Home of Polygamy Porter and our favorite watering hole.

On the Road

I'm off to see the world; well, actually I'm only going as far as Utah. My family has a reunion every summer and I try to get there as often as I can. This means I'll not be putting up any pictures for the next week because we are not taking our laptop with us. I will be posting from an I-touch but you will have to wait until next week for the photos. Hope you all having as much fun as I'll be having.
