Adriatic and Aegean Journal

Some last views of Venice.

The next block over from where we stayed.

The near-by piazza at with shops and out-door cafes.

Traffic jam a la Venice.

A restaurant in the old Venetian Ghetto. The word ghetto was the Venetian word for foundry and this area, where the Jews of the 16th century were allowed to live, had been where cannon foundries were located.

View of the Grand Canal. You may notice on the skyline, just a bit right of center, the top decks of a cruise ship in port.

Photos of the Grand Canal of Venice:

Near the Rialto Bridge.

Two stops away on the waterbus from our apartment.

The view from our stop.

At the end of the Grand Canal near the port.

Taken from our ship as we were escorted by two tugs to the open sea.

Views of St. Mark's in Venice,
The bell on the top of the clock tower.

The clock tower.

The front of St. Mark's - having a bit of restoration done at the top left.

The "tables" in the picture are set up and used to walk on when the tide is high enough to flood the Piazza. There are stacks of them everywhere near the canals.

St. Mark's and the Doge's Palace.

Adriatic and Aegean Journal

The place where we stayed in Venice and some of the immediate surroundings.  I should point out that there are no cars, motor scooters or bicycles in Venice, so when I say street, I am referring to walkways.

Our building is the one with the balconies.

A restaurant just around the corner and down the block.
Just down the street someone was growing shade.
The public fountain.
The green grocer.

Three lions of Venice:

The Lion of Venice and St Marks with friend.

A lion in the St. Marks Piazza.

The lion at the Ca' D'oro House on the Grand Canal.

A denizen of the Venetian Ghetto.
