Finished and a little riddle...

I finished the loop scarf and I'm quite pleased at how it turned out.

In Progress

Started this pastel of the Middle Fork Flathead River in Glacier National Park. I thought it was done but after staring at it for a while I realized there were some glaring errors.

I'm also working on a looped yarn scarf, It's relatively easy to make but time consuming. 

You may be wondering about the rug - I'm cutting stripes but expect to start weaving tomorrow. I'll get a picture up as soon as I can.

Lower Slaughter

This is an oil painting that I finished today. I took photos after the end of painting sessions in order to show how the painting evolved. This is a view of Lower Slaughter in the Cotswolds, UK. The painting is 18 by 24 inches on canvas.

Lower Slaughter in the Cotswolds

I just finished this pastel this week. I used a photo I had taken while we walking along a path named the Warden's Way. The section we traveled ran from Upper Slaughter, through Lower Slaughter, and then to Burton on the Water. The picture was done on Wallis sanded paper using mostly Pan Pastels with some Nu-Pastels, and touches of Unison and Rembrandt. The size is 12 by 18 inches.

Making Cloisonne on Dichroic Glass

I just finished taking a 3 day workshop with Julianna Kirk at the Art League of Long Island.

Final shaping of glass.

Finished shapes.

Placing the cloisonne wires.

Adding the background glass.

Cutting a groove for the wire wrap.

Finished glass but still needs to be bezeled.

Earring just need ear wires but pendant still needs to be wrapped.

The Seine at Night

This oil was painted from a photo of the Seine which I took from the Pont Neuf (the New Bridge) which was built in the early 1600s. It shows the view down stream toward the Eiffel Tower. This is an oil on canvas measuring 18 by 24 inches.

Bistro Near Montmartre

Yesterday I finished this painting of a little bistro near the bottom of Montmartre, Paris. I painted it from a photo I took in the Autumn of 2003. They make a very nice omelet and the vin ordinaire was quite decent. The painting is oil on cotton canvas and measures 14 by 18 inches (35.6 by 45.7cm).

Wine Caps Mushrooms

This is an oil painting on canvas that I finished several weeks ago. The subject is a trio of Stropharia rugosoannulata, common name Wine Caps. The models ended up in a risotto and were accompanied by a red wine. The painting is 9 X 12 inches.

James - My Neighbors' Grandson

I finished this portrait about a month ago but have yet to show it to my neighbors. It's in an exhibition right now but I'll give it to them when the show comes down.

Harris Hawk Pastel

I did this pastel from a photo taken two years ago in the desert near Tucson, Arizona. This is the second bird I have done and I believe that my representation of feathers is improving.

After the first session I had the background done (I thought) and the bird well delineated.

I had the bird fairly well filled in by the end of the second session.

Here's the finished picture. I had to lighten the background which was a real pain but, as it was before, the hawk didn't really stand out.

The Progress of Edie's Portrait

This is a pastel portrait that I did from a photo of my late friend Edie. The photo was not great but because I knew her so well I attempted the project. My progress was closely followed by a mutual friend who had known Edie even longer than I. Finally both of us agreed that the picture captured Edie well.

It is going to be hung in a local show in the Lynbrook, Long Island, NY library and then I am sending it to Edie's niece who still misses her very much, even though it has been 10 years since her death. Fortunately, she does not read my blog because this is going to be a surprise for her.

I took the photos below at the end of each working day.

The Progress of a Beaded Pin

This is a pin I designed and beaded. It measures 5 by 3 1/2 inches (13.5 by 9.5 cm). I forged the pin back from a piece of 14k gold-fill wire. The medallion in the center is a German glass hatpin top made about 1900 to 1910. The large green pebble shaped beads are malachite. All the seed beads are glass. It's beaded on crinoline and the backing is Ultrasuede.
